Retiring UMA

Upper Midwest Alpacas (UMA) was a group of alpaca owners and breeders in the upper Midwestern states, and a long time affiliate of the Alpaca Owners Association (AOA). Through the cooperative efforts of our membership we promoted and supported the alpaca community via networking, semi annual meetings, conferences, surveys, education programs, supporting regional alpaca shows and programs and events sponsored by our members.

A message from our President:

Dear UMA Members and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to inform you that at the last UMA board meeting, the board decided to end Upper Midwest Alpacas.

Several years of low membership and little to no growth was the most prevalent factor in making this decision. The events that were held had decent participation, but no new members were added. This year with no events able to take place, it was another setback in our drive to gain members.

The only order of business to attend to is the balance in the UMA checking account. In compliance with the UMA by-laws, it was decided that the money will be donated to a llama/alpaca rescue. The decision as to which rescue will be made in the coming weeks.

On behalf of the present board, thank you for your time and energy spent over the years in UMA related events. While UMA may be done, the friendships we have made along the way most certainly are not.

I encourage you to continue in your alpaca journey knowing that “alpaca people” are one of a kind. Their love for their animals, for the alpaca industry, and for other alpaca people are second to none. There are no strangers when you have a love for alpacas in common!

Be kind, stay safe and well, and stay in touch!

Respectfully yours,

Michelle Durenberger

President
